The Laboratory Assistant – Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting, receiving, and distributing specimens within the laboratory, as well as the operation of anticipated laboratory equipment. Required experience includes a minimum of two (2) years of phlebotomy experience, with preferred experience of two (2) or more years of infant and children blood collection experience and previous experience with Good Lab Practice. Education requirements include a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and graduation from a Phlebotomist Tech training program, with some college level courses preferred. Specialized skills required include strong verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, judgment, problem-solving skills, ability to operate lab equipment, proficiency in human venipuncture techniques, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area. Licensure required is Certified Phlebotomist Tech 1. The work environment is sedentary with very light energy level and involves lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and various physical activities such as bending, climbing, keyboard use, and standing. Sensory requirements include color discrimination, depth perception, far and near vision, and hearing. The environment may expose the worker to airborne communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, extreme noise levels, temperatures, radiation, and uneven surfaces or elevations.
